FAQ

Why use a co-parenting app?

These apps make the process of co-parenting a little bit easier.

They can be used by parents who are amicable to help with the logistics.

Who’s picking up? When? Where? Changes are easily notified?

They can also be used by parents who are having trouble with communicating respectfully.

How do they help with respectful communication?

The apps are not confidential and keep a written record of communication.

That means that anything that is abusive in the communication can be used as evidence.

The 100% risk of getting caught out is a great deterrent. Even if the motivation is self-protection the outcome is no abuse or evidence of abuse so that the family violence can be reported to the Police (if in breach of an order) or may give grounds for a protection order.

Is it compulsory?

In some cases a judge might order that a co-parenting app is used but in most cases parents decide to use one themselves.

What are the other advantages?

Co-parenting apps generally hide your email address and phone number so they avoid the problems that can sometimes happen if your phone or email are known to an ex who is out of control at the moment.

Can others be involved?

Yes. The apps specifically designed for post-separation parenting usually provide for professionals such as a lawyer, coach or mediator to be given access to parts of the app.

Often there is a shared calendar and noticeboard that other family members, the kids and babysitters can also access.

What about financial stuff?

Some of the apps allow parents to upload receipts and invoices and request payment.

Some even have a payment system built in.

Which one is right for me?

That I can’t tell you because it really depends on your needs. If your relationship with your co-parent is high conflict one of the specialist family law ones is best. If less so one of the free ones that help with organising may be plenty.
